About Turo

Are driving and cars just for the boys?

The automotive world has historically kept a sharp focus on men, but these days, it’s women who hold the most power and influence when it comes to purchasing decisions.

In fact, in a couple of recent surveys of the general female population and, more specifically, women who use Turo, we found that women are not only well-versed in car culture, but also relish being in the fast lane.

So with women’s blossoming influence in the automotive and travel sectors, are driving and cars still just for the boys?

In late February, the Turo team invited some lovely ladies from the Capsule and Cabana fashion and lifestyle tradeshow to a swanky midtown Manhattan meetup.

Powerful women of all stripes — from fashionista entrepreneurs to sports agents to IT managers and retirees — told all in our confessional booth.

After chatting cars and gender stereotypes for a few minutes with each lady boss, a few trends were clear:

Powerful women of all stripes — from fashionista entrepreneurs to sports agents to IT managers and retirees — told all in our confessional booth.

After chatting cars and gender stereotypes for a few minutes with each lady boss, a few trends were clear:

Women dig driving just as much as guys. They get their hands dirty under the hood, they like to sit tall and go fast, and driving makes them feel powerful.
All ladies have felt powerful behind the wheel of a car, and all have a dream car (the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen was a crowd favorite).
Most ladies had had their driving abilities questioned because of their gender.
